An issue has been identified within the EBSCOHost interface that is
causing certain exports of records to send only partial information to
RefWorks. This situation occurs only when a user is tries to export
from the full record display only.

When users select records and place them in the EBSCO folder, then
chooses the export option, the data is sent correctly and completely.
EBSCO is aware of this problem. We recommend that all users export
records via the folder option until the situation has been rectified .

Thank you,

RefWorks Technical Services

Forum category: Discussion Forum / Database Import / Export
Forum thread: EBSCOHost interface

ARTstor users can now export citations directly to RefWorks. Users may save images and/or image groups into a citation list. Citation lists may then be directly exported into, RefWorks. Each citation includes the creator, title, date, repository, ARTstor image ID number, and stable URL for each image.

To create and export a citation list to RefWorks, follow these steps:

Select images: select one or multiple images by clicking on them once while in the thumbnail page,

Create a citation list: go to the Image Groups menu located in the toolbar and choose “save selected images as citations,”

Open citation list: click on “View saved citations” from Image Groups Menu,

At the top of the “ARTstore Saved Citations” page, Click on the link to “Directly export citations into RefWorks,

If you are not already logged into Refworks, you will be forwarded to the login screen and begin importing the citations.

More detailed information is available from ARTstore.

Forum category: Discussion Forum / Database Import / Export
Forum thread: Export ARTstor Citations Directly to Refworks

If you find that you import a lot of references into RefWorks from SUMMIT, the Library's catalog, then consider using RefWork's "Search Online Catalog or Database" option.

From RefWork's "Search" menu, select "Online Catalog or Database". Choose "Syracuse Summit Voyager" from the list of search options. (Other search options are to search the PubMed database and other library catalogs such as Library of Congress.)

The Quick Search automatically ANDs terms together — i.e., all terms must be present in the catalog entry — and the Advanced Search lets you choose which fields you are searching and control the search logic for greater precision.

However, both searches return the results sorted in backwards relevancy order — i.e., the first item in the list is, unfortunately, the least relevant. This has to do with how SUMMIT returns the search results, rather than how RefWorks picks them up.

The strategy to apply here is to construct searches that return less than 50 search results — the maximum that RefWorks can import in this type of searching.**If you find that you import a lot of references into RefWorks from SUMMIT, the Library's catalog, then consider using RefWork's "Search Online Catalog or Database" option.

From RefWork's "Search" menu, select "Online Catalog or Database".
In some cases, when one directly exports references from a database (ie. Wilson's Education Full Text) into RefWorks, a new RefWorks login window opens - even if you are already logged in.

RefWorks' Support recommends clearing the browser cache to solve this issue.

Forum category: Discussion Forum / Database Import / Export
Forum thread: Additional login Windows

When inserting a citation using Write-N-Cite, make sure your curser is in the right location. For example, make sure you press the space bar immediately following the text you are citing. Otherwise the paper will be difficult to read due to spacing issues.

Forum category: Discussion Forum / Write-N-Cite
Forum thread: Citation Spacing
